Effective September 7, 2026 · Applies to the Doughgether app for iPhone and doughgether.com

Bread was never meant to be baked alone. Your data was never meant to be sold. This page says plainly what Doughgether keeps, why, who touches it, and how to take it back.

It's written by people, not a template. Where we name a company, it's because their servers actually hold or process something of yours.

The short version

  • We keep what you make in the app: your account, your starters, your feeds, your journal, your bakes, your Table posts, and your Crumb Doctor reads.

  • We use a small number of services to run the app: Supabase (database, sign-in, file storage), Stream (the Table feed and messaging), and AI providers for two features — the Crumb Doctor and voice journal polish — which only see what you send them.

  • We don't sell your data. We don't show ads. We don't track you across other apps or websites.

  • You can delete your account, and everything with it, from inside the app.

What we collect

Your account. The sign-in you choose (email address and password, or an identity provider such as Apple), a display name, and an optional avatar. Sign-in, your kitchen, and your profile are all held by Supabase.

Your kitchen. Starters (name, origin, birth date, feeding history, check-ins), bakes, timers, and journal entries — text, photos, and voice notes you record. This is the heart of the app and it stays yours.

Your Table. Posts, photos, short video Moments, Reveal reactions, follows, and anything you share or gift. Posts on the Table are visible to other Doughgether members by design.

Crumb Doctor. The loaf photos you submit for a read, the questions you ask, and the scores and notes the Doctor returns. We keep your reads so you can see your own progress.

Device permissions. Only when you use the feature, and only with your permission each time iOS asks: - Camera and photo library — to photograph loaves, starters, and Moments. - Microphone and speech recognition — for voice journal entries. Transcription runs on your device first; audio is sent to a cloud transcriber only if your device can't transcribe it locally. - Notifications — timers and starter reminders. These are scheduled on your device; we don't need a server to nag you.

Usage and diagnostics. Basic, non-advertising information about crashes and which screens are used, so we can fix what breaks.

Referral links. When you share a loaf or a starter, the link carries a code tied to your account so the person who taps it can find their way to your table. If they install the app, we record that you introduced them. Nothing else about them is collected on the way in.

Who touches your data, and why

We keep this list short on purpose. Each of these is a processor: they act on our instructions and can't use your data for their own purposes.

How the AI features work

You should know when a machine is reading your bread.

The Crumb Doctor is an AI. It grades what it can see in your photo on five things — crumb, crust, ear, shape, and color — and gives its best read. It can be wrong. It is not a food-safety authority: if you see mold, or pink or orange streaks in a starter, discard the whole culture regardless of what any app says. The Doctor is instructed never to invent historical facts and to show a source note for any factual claim it makes.

Voice polish takes the transcript of what you said and tidies it — filler words, punctuation, paragraphs — without adding anything. You review the result before it's saved. It's off by default and turns on only when you say so.

Neither feature is used to train AI models on your data.

How long we keep things

As long as you have an account, your kitchen is kept so it's there when you come back. Some system records are hidden rather than erased while your account is active — a retired starter, an edited post — so history stays honest. When you delete your account, all of it goes.

Logs and diagnostics are kept for no more than 90 days.

Your choices

  • Export. Ask us and we'll send you your kitchen — starters, feeds, journal, bakes — in a readable format.

  • Delete. In the app: Avatar → Settings → Delete account. This removes your account, your kitchen, your Table posts, your Doctor reads, and your files from our systems and from the processors above. You'll get a confirmation when it's done. You can also email us to request deletion.

  • Permissions. Camera, microphone, photos, and notifications can be turned off any time in iOS Settings. The related features stop working; nothing else does.

  • Voice polish. Toggle it in the journal composer.

Children

Doughgether is for people 13 and older. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone younger. If you think we have, tell us and we'll delete it.

Security

Everything travels over TLS. Files are stored in private buckets and served through signed, expiring links. Passwords are never stored in a readable form. AI provider keys live on our servers, never in the app on your phone. No system is perfect; if something goes wrong that affects you, we'll tell you.

Changes

If this page changes in a way that matters, we'll say so in the app before it takes effect. The date at the top is the date this version began.
