Effective September 7, 2026 · Applies to the Doughgether app for iPhone and doughgether.com

These are the house rules for the Doughgether app and doughgether.com. Short where we can be, specific where we must be. By using Doughgether you're agreeing to them.

1. The table

Doughgether is a community for people who make sourdough, share it, and eat it. The Table — the community feed — is free, and it stays free. We may add paid features around it. We will not put the community itself behind a price.

To join you need an Apple device, an account, and to be at least 13 years old. You're responsible for what happens under your sign-in, so keep it to yourself.

2. What's yours

Everything you make in the app is yours: your starters, your journal, your photos, your voice notes, your bakes, your posts. You own it. We store it for you.

When you post to the Table or share something with a link, you give Doughgether a license to show it to the people you shared it with, in the app and in link previews, for as long as it's posted. Delete the post and the license ends, apart from copies already on someone else's phone or in a backup we're still clearing.

You promise that what you post is yours to post, and doesn't include someone else's face, words, or bread without their okay.

3. Being at the table

The Table works because people are decent at it. So:

  • Be kind. Flops get the most love here. Nobody gets mocked for a brick.

  • No harassment, hate, threats, or targeting anyone for who they are.

  • No nudity, gore, or anything you wouldn't hand across a real kitchen table.

  • No spam, no scams, no selling things through the Table.

  • No impersonating another baker, or Doughgether.

  • Don't try to break the app, scrape it, or get into someone else's kitchen.

Reporting and blocking. Every post and profile has a report option and a block option. Reports come to a real person. We review them, remove what breaks these rules, and may warn, restrict, or remove accounts that keep breaking them. Blocking someone hides them from you and you from them.

4. The AI in the kitchen

Two features use artificial intelligence, and we want you to know it.

The Crumb Doctor reads photos of your loaf and gives a score and notes. It's a guide, not an authority. It can misread a photo, and it can be wrong about your bread. It is not a substitute for food-safety judgement: if a starter shows mold, or pink or orange discoloration, throw the whole thing out, whatever any read says. The Doctor is told never to invent facts about sourdough history or science and to attach a source note to factual claims. If you catch it inventing one, report it.

Voice polish tidies your spoken journal entries. It's off unless you turn it on, it adds nothing to what you said, and you review the result before saving.

We don't use your photos, journal, or posts to train AI models.

5. Sourdough is food

Doughgether gives guidance on feeding, timing, and baking. It's drawn from reputable sources and written carefully, but it's general information, not a guarantee. Your flour, your kitchen, and your oven are different from everyone else's. You're responsible for what you eat and what you serve. If in doubt, throw it out.

6. The Crust Club

The Crust Club is an optional paid membership for bakers who want more from the Doctor, a longer journal memory, and a bit of flair.

  • Founding members — bakers in the first cohort — receive the Club free for life. This is recorded on your account and doesn't require a payment method.

  • When paid membership is available, it's sold through Apple's App Store as an auto-renewing subscription at the price shown in the app at the time. Your Apple ID is charged at confirmation of purchase; it renews unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the period ends. Manage or cancel in your Apple ID settings. Refunds are handled by Apple under Apple's terms.

  • Nothing on the Table is gated by the Club. Ever.

7. Leaving

You can delete your account from inside the app at any time — Avatar → Settings → Delete account. It removes your kitchen, your posts, your reads, and your files. It's permanent. Retired starters and old posts you've hidden go too.

We can suspend or close accounts that break section 3, and we'll say why unless the law stops us. If we ever shut Doughgether down, we'll give you notice and a way to export your kitchen first.

8. Doughgether's stuff

The Doughgether name, wordmark, the app design, the Doctor's voice, and the copy are ours. The starters and the bread are yours. Don't use our name to suggest we endorse something we don't.

9. The parts a lawyer makes us say

Doughgether is provided "as is." We work hard to keep it up and accurate, but we don't promise it will always be available, error-free, or right about your crumb. To the fullest extent the law allows, Doughgether and its people aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from your use of the app, and our total liability to you is limited to the amount you've paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or $50, whichever is greater.

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Hawaii, USA, and disputes go to the courts there, unless your local law gives you rights we can't override — in which case those apply.

If any part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still stands.

10. Apple

Because the app is distributed through the App Store: these terms are between you and Doughgether, not Apple. Apple has no obligation to provide support or maintenance for the app. Apple is a third-party beneficiary of these terms and may enforce them. You confirm you're not in a country under a U.S. embargo and not on any U.S. restricted-parties list.

11. Changes

If these terms change in a way that matters, we'll tell you in the app before it takes effect. Keeping on using Doughgether after that means you're okay with the new version.
